Let's kick things off with paying it forward! This is probably one of the most charitable deals I've seen thus far, found on one of my favorite wheelin n dealin sites: Living Social. They are currently matching your $5 charitable donation to the American Red Cross! (The cost of a grande latte!) While I am sometimes hesitant as to where I give donations, it is nice to see that they have set up a fund specifically for the Tsunami Relief in Japan, so we can assume that is where it is going, up to $2,000,000 that is.
As with any Living Social or Groupon deals, make sure to always read the fine print like on this one:
" ***** Your gift to the American Red Cross will support disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific. For each $5 donation made during the promotional duration, LivingSocial will donate an additional $5 to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund up to a maximum of $2,000,000 in matching funds. On those rare occasions when donations exceed American Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters. *****.... "
If you are interested in alternate organizations to send your donations to, try Heart to Heart International or Samaritan's Purse. These are two organization who have very low overhead costs= a higher percentage of your donation actually gets to the charity!
Happy giving!
